Please help! I have very fine (baby-fine) wavy hair that is thinning more with each year. I color it (permanent and semi-permanent) and it looks really split and damaged. I plan to stop using permanent color and stick to semi-permanent in the future. What else can I do? (I'm currently in cosmetology school--licensing in May). Thanks!!

Hi Cookie,

Try using restorative treatments to re-impart the proteins (keratin) lost during damaging color sessions.

There are several choices, such as keratin straightening treatments, leave-in conditioners, and even protein "shots" (anybody can PM me for more details).

Ultimately, condition everyday, and use a restorative masque at least once per week to keep your hair moisturized.

Alternatively, the brand of color you're using could be leading to the damage. Try switching brands to see if that helps.

:D

Try using color gloss and Chris, very well said with the keratin treatment with a very low heat with the iron. It shouldn't be more than 350F and only two passes. For daily regimen, use masques or deep conditioning treatments instead of the regular conditioner. and finally, use non-sulfate shampoo. If you follow these rituals, you'll see improvement immediately.
